This afternoon's performance is a showcase of the compositions featured on Rosemary Minkler's debut album, entitled Prospectus. This self-produced album features all original music performed by Rosemary on piano and vocals, Jeff Moro on bass, and Eric Hallenbeck on drums.  Rosemary has been a member of St. John's since birth, and leads an ensemble of musicians at the church's monthly jazz music service. “This Christmas” with the St. John’s Jazz Ensemble

"And this Christmas, will be A very special Christmas, for me..." December 18, 2016, was Jazz Sunday at St. John's, Waterbury.  Our Jazz Ensemble, which plays one Sunday each month, entertained the congregation with a lively version of Donny Hathaway's 1970 hit as the postlude to the service.  Performing "This Christmas" are Samantha Feliciano (guest vocalist), Keenan Asbridge (trumpet), Tim Lewis (saxophone), Michael Louchen (bass), Rosemary Minkler (piano), and Matt Spencer (drums). Open or Close Doors?

Fewer people in the pews and fewer dollars in the collection plates are leading to big changes for two historic city churches, as one seeks to merge with another congregation and the other will likely shut its doors....

On a recent Sunday, the ushers at St. John’s Episcopal Church on the Green did something that likely never been done in the church’s almost 300-year history. They threw open the doors so passers-by could hear the joyful gospel music inside.

Worshippers from Community Tabernacle Outreach Center, a Pentecostal church on Hewlett Street, had come to St. John’s for a combined service, and brought with them an energy that both contracted and complemented the more subdued Episcopal rites.
