Waterbury is a city of 110,000, where the population ranges from comfortable to penniless.

The Outreach Committee uses a small endowment to fund projects that help those less fortunate. Through the Outreach Committee and through individual contributions, St. John’s supports many social service needs in the area, including:

• Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries (GWIM) — Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry.

• Covenant to Care — collecting and donating items to needy families served by a Child Protective Service Social Worker.  This includes providing Christmas gifts, Easter baskets, back-to-school supplies and backpacks, and special requests.

• HomeFront — providing volunteers and skilled craftsmen to help repair a home for someone in financial need.

• Safe Haven — collecting and donating items to support a place of refuge for battered women and children. The goal is to help get them through challenges and difficulties and reclaim self sufficiency.
