Amy Welin:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Imagine the following sermon sung to the tune of <\/em>My Favorite Things<em>, from the musical <\/em>The Sound of Music.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Poinsettias decorate the sanctuary.<br \/>\nThinking the snow won\u2019t start \u2018til January.<br \/>\nGold bows and white candles and choirs that sing<br \/>\nThese are a few of my favorite things.<\/p>\n<p>Families visit from faraway places.<br \/>\nWe seem to need a few more parking spaces.<br \/>\nTurning the lights down to sing Silent Night .<br \/>\nThese are the things that make Christmas feel right.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cr\u00e8che processions, faith professions,<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Priests who sing off key.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;My favorite things make each Christmas so sweet &#8211;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Twelve days full of thrills for me.<\/p>\n<p>Assembling the cr\u00e8che with the shepherds and sheepses.<br \/>\nPolishing silver and brass altarpieces.<br \/>\nOrganists who know how to make the chimes ring<br \/>\nThese are a few of my favorite things.<\/p>\n<p>Vestments that shimmer and candlelight gleaming,<br \/>\nSitting in worship while sugarplum-dreaming.<br \/>\nCounters who say the collection increased,<br \/>\nThe peaceful Sunday that follows the feast.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Epiphany pageants, children\u2019s sermons,<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Acolytes filled with glee.<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;These favorite things make each Christmas so sweet &#8211;<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Twelve days full of thrills for me.<\/p>\n<p>With every Christmas the tidings are gladsome.<br \/>\nWe have a baby at Christmas to welcome.<br \/>\nWe are God\u2019s children, new heirs of the King:<br \/>\nWe are a few of God\u2019s favorite things!<\/p>\n<p>Salvation is something fulfilled in a stable.<br \/>\nGod born in flesh beckons us to his table<br \/>\nPresence of Christ we can taste and can see<br \/>\nWe have a foretaste of eternity.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Bread of heaven, cupped salvation<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Gift of truth and grace<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Now errors and sins are forgiven, erased,<br \/>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In heaven we\u2019ll find our place!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sermon for December 28, 2014 (First Sunday After Christmas)<br \/>\nRev.
