Jim BradleyWelcome to
St. John’s Parish

The Rev. Dr. James G. Bradley, Rector

St. John’s-on-the-Green is a vibrant Episcopal parish located in the midst of downtown Waterbury. We are a remarkably diverse congregation socially, racially, economically and theologically. St. John’s is a “magnet” church, drawing members from over 40 towns besides Waterbury. Our historic buildings are both strikingly beautiful and a place of profound holiness.

Founded in 1737, St. John’s has a rich tradition of being “open space” for the city and the Greater Waterbury area. Our buildings are home to everything from the Interfaith Ministry Soup Kitchen/Resource Center to two “artist in residence” groups. Nearly 150,000 people use our sacred space each year for cultural events, support groups, community meetings and to receive social services. In addition, the sanctuary is open each day from 9:00am until 2:30pm for prayer and rest. A newly completed labyrinth in St. John’s Close provides an opportunity for quiet reflection in the center of a busy urban area.

Creative worship and music, nurture and education for all ages, spiritual growth, a deep commitment to outreach ministry and a rich social life provides a “home” to a growing congregation. In less than a year, our Spanish Eucharist on Sundays at noon has turned from an experiment into a lively Hispanic service for nearly 100 folks of all ages.

It is my prayer that visiting our web-site will inspire you to visit us in person! You will find a community of openness and welcome here.
Join us for the journey and the joy!

Shalom,

Jim Bradley
