Lenten Season is fast approaching with Ash Wednesday on February 22nd. Accordingly, a celebration is in order for Sunday, February 19th. Please join me and the rest of the Hospitality Committee in making this a memorable event for ALL!!! Bring your favorite dish to share and enjoy with our extended family and friends.
On the day before the beginning of Lent it is a tradition of the Church to indulge the senses. In some cultures, this period prior to the austerity of a Lenten Discipline has been expanded into an extended period of “Carnival”. At St. John’s, we gather on Shrove Tuesday (“shrove” is from “shriven” which means having confessed sins and been forgiven”) for pancakes and sausage and hash.
5 p.m.—7 p.m. Pancake Supper (please make a donation equal to what you would spend to go out to eat) Please singup on the green sheet.
Numerous Lenten Celebrations of the Holy Eucharist are planned in the homes of parishioners, some at noon, and many at 7 PM. You are invited to host one of these celebrations in your home. A sign up sheet is available on Sundays, or you may phone or e-mail the Parish Office to ‘book’ a Celebration in your home.
GWIM ( Greater Waterbury Interfaith Ministries) has made a request for 900 jars of Peanut Butter. St. John's is going to fill that request with at least 900 jars (if not more). So join with us and help reach our goal of 900 jars. We have 580 jars already!
