The Chorister Academy at St. John's Parish has been established to give young people in the greatrer Waterbury area, regardless of background, the opportunity to sing in a choir that is faithful to the highest standards of the choral art.
The Choir is open to all young people, 3rd grade through high school. In addition to vocal instruction, lessons will be offered in music theory, music history, and Christian liturgical practice. Instruction in the Choir will be offered in accordance with programs established and supported by the Royal School of Church Music in America, programs recognized for their excellence in teaching and encouraging people of all ages to sing well.
Rehearsals and lessons will be held twice a week: Tuesday afternoons from 4:00 - 5:30, and Thursday afternoons from 5:00 - 7:15 (Thursdays include dinner). The Director is Maria Coffin, formerly Director of the Westover Children's Chorus and Minister of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown, CT.
