Choir Sunday – October 8

Join us at the 9:30 service on Sunday, October 8, for the premiere of the new St. John’s Choir!  Director Samantha Feliciano and accompanist Steve Minkler will be joined by Brian Ladden (ukelele and djembe) and about a dozen St. John’s members of all ages for this month’s music program:

Opening Song: “Funga Alafia” (African Welcome Song)
Sequence Hymn: 439, “What Wondrous Love is This”
Offertory Anthem: “Antiphonal Sanctus” (music by Cristi Cary Miller, © 2015)
Communion Hymn: WLP 831, “Ubi Caritas”
Recessional Hymn: LEVAS 106, “Precious Lord, Take my Hand”

Our selections include ancient Latin texts (one set to music composed only two years ago), an African-American spiritual, a traditional American folk hymn, and a joyous “welcome song” from West Africa.

The Choir is returning after a three-year absence to be part of our musical rotation on a monthly basis.  This fall’s dates are October 8, November 12, and December 10.

If you — or others you know — are interested in joining the new Choir, please come to our rehearsals as noted below.  You will hear us gathering and singing in the church, while the upstairs Choir Room is undergoing repairs and renovations.

Please spread the word!
